Art From Junk

Julia Mark teaches art at Stonewall Collegiate. She regularly visits ArtsJunktion and finds supplies that she uses with her students in her classroom.
Recently her grade 10 art class completed a stained glass project. The
results were very good. She took several picture frames from ArtsJunktion It didn't matter what kind they were as long as there was a usable piece of glass that could slide out of the fame easily.
She used a tutorial that she found online for creating a stained glass look
without having to spend a lot of money on extra supplies. Each students chose a frame, created a line image, and then painted their image onto the glass.
The tutorial used:
http://www.suzyssitcom.com/2011/01/feature-friday-faux-stained-glass.html
Some students chose to paint their frames and include it with their glass
and others decided that they didn't want their image to be in a frame.
The paint used was a mixture of regular acrylic paint mixed with white
Elmer’s glue. The reason for the glue is that it allows the paint to dry
partially clear, letting some light through. The assignment let students
try something new, mix paint, make use of the elements of design and
really think about how light affects an image. Art history about medieval stained glass in Cathedrals and the History of stained glass were integrated into this project.

"I just discovered Art Junktion last week. I came in and picked up a few things, and I wanted to show you what I've made so far with the items I picked out.
All three of these are painted on old 5.5" floppy diskettes. Now my kids are mad I didn't get more so they could play too - so I'll probably be back to pick up half a dozen more. The plan is to use these as mail art - write a name and address on the back, slap a stamp on it and see how far it gets.
Thanks for what you're doing. I think it's amazing!!
