Creating and Using Journals - FULL

with Ann Stinner and in collaboration with Manitoba Education

ArtsJunktion mb, in collaboration with Manitoba Education, is pleased to present workshops for Manitoba teachers promoting the Manitoba Arts Curriculum and Sustainable Development. Ann will demonstrate a wide variety of ways to create hand-made journals using found materials. Participants will use the materials available at the depot and a variety of techniques in creating personal art journals. Registrants are asked to bring a favourite/significant piece of writing to the workshop. (Grade 3 and up.) Attendance is limited to 25 registrants. with Michelle Hakimelahi-Bradley and Donna Massey-Cudmore

This workshop will provide participants an opportunity to experiment with ceramic and glass mosaic techniques, including cutting, affixing, and grouting. All materials will be provided but please bring ideas/sketches and any items you wish to mosaic. The workshop will teach participants how to design and work on their own mosaics, and improve the skills of those who already have some experience. During the workshop, you can expect to make a small mosaic project and gain knowledge about the variety of mosaic materials, tools, techniques, glues, suppliers, methods and various do's and don'ts. Some sample products and design books will be available for inspiration. *Participants should bring a smock or apron, a mug for refreshments, an item to mosaic such as a bowl, tray, picture frame, vase etc..(the item can be glass, wood, metal, or ceramic), and some design ideas. Please register for one session only. Space is limited. Please register by April 1st. Session is 4-7pm.

Creating Fabric Landscapes - FULL

with Heidi Hunter and in collaboration with Manitoba Education

ArtsJunktion mb, in collaboration with Manitoba Education is pleased to present workshops for Manitoba teachers promoting the Manitoba Arts Curriculum and Sustainable Development. OVER HILL OVER DALE: In this workshop you will be creating fabric landscapes. Rummage through ArtJunktion’s cache of upholstery samples and unusual fabrics. Dance with your scissors and glue and take home a fantasy art piece. In this one day workshop with fibre artist Heidi Hunter, you will refresh your design skills, play with colour, texture and line to create a one-of-a-kind cloth landscape. Attendance is limited to 25 registrants. Registration: $5.00 Session is 9-3:30

Full This workshop is made possible through the support of Education Manitoba and will explore ways of printmaking with students using a variety of the found and recycled materials available at ArtJunktion mb. Printmaking techniques will include creating relief prints using styrofoam trays, collagraphs, stamping and others. This workshop is suitable for Early and Middle Years classroom teachers. Creating Daybooks

In Memory of Cath KC

A small group of teachers has met early in the summer every year for the past 15 years to create daybooks for the upcoming school year. The daybook sessions were a wonderfully creative experience and a chance to 'talk shop' together about teaching stories and inspirations. We invite you to join us! Come to ArtsJunktion and hang out for the day with some very creative teachers while you design and assemble the perfect daybook for you. We will use handy, donated scrapbooking tools and utilize recycled materials found in the depot to design the perfect daybook for your style of teaching. The cost of this workshop will include a professional binding ( Phil Mar Bindery)We will need to meet together at the depot to do a little planning before the day.There will be many hand made daybooks for you to browse through for inspiration. Planning Date TBA. Registration is limited to 10 people and registration closes June 29th.

Creating Silk Paintings- FULL!

Art Workshop

This workshop is in 2 parts and it is necessary to attend both sessions. Dates are January 13, 2011 (6:30-9:00ish) and Janurary 20, 2011 (6:30-9:00ish) Working with brightly coloured dyes on silk can produce amazing results. In this workshop participants will have the opportunity to learn about the process and to create their own silk painting. Ann Rallison is a Winnipeg artist and educator. She was born in England and received her first degree from the University of Liverpool. Ann has been an educator for over thirty years, but she has been an artist all her life. She is a printmaker and is a member of the Manitoba Printmakers’ Association. Ann displays and sells her work through Gallery Lacosse in Winnipeg. Attendance: Limited to 20 registrants Registration for both sessions is $30.00.

Creating Dioramas FULL

with TED BARKER, JANESSA BRUNET, LIDI KUIPER in collaboration with Manitoba Department of Education

Creating dioramas involves thinking “outside the box”-using materials in new and creative ways. ArtsJunktion is the perfect place to find unusual, intriguing materials. In this workshop teachers will have the opportunity to create a diorama using mixed media and to create a visual narrative using photography techniques. Participants will need a digital camera for this workshop. Suitable for all grades. Ted Barker and Janessa Brunet are Winnipeg artists. Ted has a BFA from U of M with a major in painting. He has had a lifelong fascination with creating dioramas using various techniques and mediums. Janessa specializes in film and digital photography. Her work deals with capturing everyday objects and bringing them to life using close-up photography. She has had considerable experience working with children and teachers in art. Lidi Kuiper is a Winnipeg artist and educator. She is a potter, a painter and a printmaker. Lidi is working in the Learning Through the Arts program and she has extensive experience helping teachers create art programs. Workshop hours are 9:00am-3:30pm. EARTH WEEK

To celebrate Earth Day we will be having special activities ALL WEEK during our regular open hours of Earth Week (Monday April 18, Wednesday April 20, Thursday April 21). (We are closed Saturday.) In addition to regular services, throughout the week we will host musicians and artists-in-residence. Making Puppets Come Alive

Art Workshop

Puppets in the classroom can be a marvellous teaching and learning tool. This workshop will give teachers the opportunity to work with puppeteer and educator Natalie Labossière to create puppets from the wonderful assortment of materials found at ArtsJunktion mb. Participants will learn about puppet manipulation and will experiment with different puppet styles. Natalie Labossière is a Manitoba artist and teacher. Her extensive experience in performing and in teaching puppetry has taken her from the stage, to television productions, to publishing materials for teachers about puppetry. She works across the country in French and in English. This workshop was made possible through a grant from Manitoba Education. 9:00-3:30 at ArtsJunktion. Space is limited.

Silk Paintings with Ann Rallison

This is a 2 session workshop that will take place on May 26 and June 2, 6:30-9pm. Working with brightly coloured dyes on silk can produce amazing results. Your donated art work will be sold in a live auction at 8:15 pm Thursday, June 16, 2011 in the Cre8ery Art Gallery (125 Adelaide St.), upstairs from the ArtsJunktion warehouse. Your art work will be displayed in the gallery from June 7th until the auction and will be available for viewing during gallery hours. All proceeds from the auction will go to ArtsJunktion mb, while a tax receipt for the amount of the sale of the donated art will be issued to the artist. In addition, if your art is sold for $50.00 or more, ArtsJunktion will provide you with a $50 gift certificate for Cre8ve Art Supplies as a small gesture of our appreciation. Creating Daybooks

Each year a small group of teachers gets together to create daybooks. We have planned this year's annual event for July 6th. Let's start at 1 PM and work till we are tired. Teachers will pay for their own binding. As a group I suggest we support AJ by making a collective donation. All are welcome to join us. There will likely be another day planned in order for some to finish off their books. We will decide on that other day when we meet.

Mixed Media Sculpture Workshop

Workshop

This workshop will guide participants through a hands-on process of finding re-usable materials to create sculptures. Various techniques will be discussed and explored as well as ideas concerning colour, texture, shape and other means of creative investigation. The workshop is sure to open up channels of inspiration and imagination while turning “junk” into works of art. Rachel Schappert is a multi-disciplinary Artist who recently finished her Fine Arts Honours Thesis at the U of M, School of Art and received the 2010/2011 Sculpture Award. Schappert uses a wide range of art media and techniques in her work which includes oil painting, murals, performance art, film and mixed media sculpture. She has shown work at the National Art Centre in Ottawa, at AXENEO7 in Gatineau, Quebec, at The Artisan in Regina and the Julie Saul Gallery in Chelsea, New York. Her work has also been shown locally. She finds joy and inspiration amid the distinct grass roots Winnipeg creative community. Attendance: Limited to 20 participants.
