Create a Herbarium at Home!

Botanist Diana Sawatzky from the University of Manitoba Herbarium, encourages you to observe the natural world on a walk through your neighborhood, take field notes, even collect and press beautiful herbarium samples at home! Enjoy the quiet presence of plants as you familiarize yourself with the qualities of the local flora, from the iconic American Elms lining our streets, to some peculiar things growing on muddy riverbanks that stick to your dog!  Plan to be obsessed with plants this summer.

This workshop will involve two Zoom sessions, with a long break to wander your neighbourhood in between. The morning will include an introduction to plant identification and discussion with Diana as well as a bookbinding tutorial for your field notes guide, and the afternoon will involve building your own herbarium and plant press!
