About the event
Join us on February 11th for an Intro-to-Ikebana Workshop, the Japanese art form of floral arrangement. A mindful session that allows participants to express their individual appreciation for nature, using local plants just in time for Valentine’s Day.
In this workshop, artist Nancy Nguyen will guide you through the creative process of composing a simplistic, harmonious and balanced floral arrangement. Offering a moment of contemplation and relaxation, while learning the fundamental basics of ikebana. After the workshop, participants will be able to take home their flower arrangements, including a vase and a kenzan (flower frog) and tea will be served!
Nancy Nguyen is of Vietnamese descent, born in Winnipeg MB, Canada. She carries a Bachelor of Fine Art Honours from the University of Manitoba. Nancy has been practicing the art of Ikebana over the past 7 years while living in Vancouver, BC. After taking various classes and workshops in the city, she studied the style of Ikenobo. The traditional style of Ikebana taught by Martha Banno, a Japanese Canadian teacher from the Ikenobo School under the Vancouver Ikebana Association. Since then, she has displayed her floral arrangements for tea ceremonies, art exhibits, and retail spaces.
Tickets for this workshop are $55, but we offer sliding scale prices to anyone for whom price is a barrier (if this is you, send us an email or dm!)
